Everyone needs to keep their eyes and ears ready for what J. Saxton is bringing to the Dubstep scene. J. Saxton, also known as Jordan Jay Saxton, from Leeds, (UK) is beginning to make his name known throughout the music scene. Having been graciously granted an interview with Jordan, I found out a little more about what makes Jordan, J. Saxton. J. Saxton says he is mostly inspired by his parents listening to a lot of reggae and different bands: Metronomy, Jitset, Claude VonStoke, and the Black Ghost. He started off first making chiptune and stumbled his way into making dubstep. He makes his music using Ableton Live 8, Reason 4, Akai MPD 24, Novation Xiosynth, and MicroKorg. Looking up to big DJs and Producers, such as, Pirate Sound System, Ojay, and Deadmau5, J. Saxton says he sees them as inspiration and not necessarily competition. “When I first started out I didn’t really feel that I was gonna get anywhere with it so I was just making beats” says J. Saxton. His goal making music is just to make sick beats and then watching them go off. When J. Saxton is not making music, Jordan is in his sixth form at Lawnswood and being like “everyone else.” He enjoys playing Modern Warfare 2 (if anyone wants to play against him his gamertag is foobo), watching South Park, and eating fried chicken. J. Saxton is not just dubstep though, he has plans on finishing a progressive house track with Don’t Panic Dear. Also, he has a new release this early January so everyone look out for that and J. Saxton.

1. I guess will start off with, Who is J. Saxton (who you are, where you are from, what do you do when you are not making music)?

im Jordon Jay Saxton (you can see where i got the name from) from Leeds, i like to play Modern Warfare 2 (as like everyone else) and South Park kicks ass. i also love fried chicken

2. What inspired you to begin making music?

i think it was probably mainly bands like Metronomy, Jitset, Claude VonStroke and The Black Ghosts. also my parents listen to alot of reggae so i guess that translates into dubstep at some point?

first i was making chiptune (i think that was a thing at the time) and i kind of just stumbled onto dubstep. there wasnt really a middle ground.

3. What kind of music would you say you like to play and listen to?

some times if ive been producing a lot of dubstep i tend to listen to Metronomy, The Black Ghosts, Calvin Harris, Deadmau5 and some times i like to scroll through the dubstep forums and find anything that sounds kick ass

4. What do you make your music on/ What do you use to make your music?

i use a microKorg, Novation Xiosynth,  Akai MPD 24, Reason 4 and Ableton Live 8

5. From my understanding you are only 15 (correct me if I am wrong), you are pretty young but very talented, do you feel like there is alot of competetion out there? Do you look up to any DJs particularly?

16 :) ,when i first started out i didnt really feel that i was gonna get anywhere with it so i was just making beats, but now its kind of weird, i dont nessasarily  see it as competion, maybe all of them just to look up to.

but perticular DJs/Producers who ive got my eye at the moment would have to be, Pirate Sound System, Ojay and Deadmau5 is a sick DJ.

6. Do you ever DJ anywhere?

i have yet to DJ but i plan on starting to do some sets soon, when i get the confidence. look out Leeds :)

7. What is it you are trying to accomplish by DJing/ what is your goal when making music?

id have to say making the sickist beats, then watching them go off. also to make a sustainable living.

8. I am taking it you are in high school, What are your plans after High School?

im now in Sixth Form at Lawnswood, i the intend to study Music Tech and Leeds Collage of Music

9. Anything else you would like to add that you want people to know about J. Saxton?

i think ive got a release early January! so look out for that

im not just dubstep, i do have plans on finishing a progressive house track with Don’t Panic Dear.

Last minute assignments, final exams, and tons of late hours stuffed up in a cubby in the library studying. This all means exam week is quickly approaching, and boy am I stressed. Speaking of stress, the French electronic music duo, Justice, released their music video “Stress” in May 2008. Justice is signed on with Ed Banger Records, along with Busy P, DJ Mehdi, and Sebastian. This famous duo consist of Gaspard Auge and Xavier de Rosnay; their rapport on stage is epic and it shows in their music and the intensity of the crowd when they play. Justice’s video “Stress” caused a lot of controversy and was boycotted by some tv stations because people felt it had a very racy message. This racy message was in enemy lines and subjected to be scrutinized, talked about, and be made into a parody. Directed by Thomas Vandenberghe and produced by Charles Villeneuve, Justesse – No Stress, a parody of the original Stress by Justice, was leaked a few months later. This is probably one of the best parody videos I have ever seen but I will let you be the judge of that.

This Sunday GhostPizza Presents a night of fun, good music, and good people.
I know finals are coming up soon and it’s the end of the semester but everyone needs a study break, for some people next week is dead week so you have the whole week to study, and as for the people who don’t study then you have no reason not to come! 12/6/09 at Salute (2901 N St. Marys SATX) bring yourself, bring your friends, bring your roommate, JUST BRING YOUR ASS and come dance and check out music from YeahDef, Damaged Good$, Daecosomoxi, and Crizzly.

2 days, around 100 artist, split among 4 stages is what I had to look forward to after my one night road trip to Forth Worth to see Minus the Bear. This festival of triple the fun provides fans with a weekend experience of Indie Rock, Hip-hop, DJs, Punk Rock, Hardcore, and Comedy acts; along with local businesses, emerging artist, and just artist we all know and loved to see play. Fun Fun Fun Fest, although being a big festival, still gives fans an opportunity to meet their favorite artists. The only problem I faced with this festival was deciding which bands to see because of the overlapping times of so many great artist.

On Saturday I dragged myself out of bed around noon and met up with some friends and headed down to Waterloo Park to catch All Leather’s performance, unfortunately parking was horrendous and I just missed them! Since missing them I headed over to the Blue Stage and saw Foot Patrol put on an amazing performance. Foot Patrol is a local band from Austin with a hip-hop, funk feel. After Foot Patrol I stayed at the the Blue Stage and caught Vega’s perfomance. Vega is also a local artist from Austin that is known for their Disco House, Italian Pop music. Following Vega, Mc Chris came up to the mic and wowed Austin with his comical hip-hop, rap. Mc Chris was one of the many artist that did a meet and greet with his fans, so I had the honor of meeting him after his performance. Next I worked my way to Black Stage to see Melt Banana, a rock band all the way from Tokyo, Japan. To end my night I parked myself at the Orange Stage to see the end of No Age; followed byDeath, Yeasayer, Les Savy Fav, and Ratatat.  Yeasayer is a psychedelic, experimental band from Brooklyn, whose performance was nothing less than amazing but nothing that could match up to the very interesting performance delivered from New York’s Indie Rock band Les Savy Fav. Lead Singer, Tim Harrington, managed to strip down to his underwear with bright purple tights underneath. Making his way across Orange Stages, he ended their set by putting  a ladder in middle of the crowd which fans lifted up while he sang their last song. Ending the night, Brooklyn’s Ratatat delivered an amazing performance with psychedelic visuals. Evan Mast and Mike Stroud are an unbeatable duo with outstanding chemistry, which was a perfect way to end the first day of Fun Fun Fun Fest.

Sunday was the second and final day of Fun Fun Fun Fest and despite the ugly weather, the festival was still a good turn out. Parking nearly wasn’t as bad as it was the day before so I made good time getting to the festival grounds and started off my Sunday by seeing Growing at the Orange Stage and then Reign Supreme on the Black Stage. After that I traveled back to Orange Stage and saw Texas’ own This will Destroy You. Their ambient rock music set the mood and must have called on the rain, because shortly after their set began, it began to pour. Once they were finished I saw a couple of songs from Fuck Buttons before I had to leave and get some food, drink, find some trash bags to improvise as a pancho, and dry off a little underneath the Stubb’s hand dryers. Once returning back to the grounds I made it just in time to see some of the people I was looking forward to the most! For the rest of the night I stayed at the Blue Stage and saw the rest of DJ Nu-Mark who was mixing a lot of really good oldies. After DJ Nu-Mark,HEALTH went balls to the wall playing their experimental rock and getting the crowds hyped up. After HEALTH, Buraka Som Sistema put on an excellent performance! I had never seen them perform before but their music and performance was truly something to see and hear. I will be one to admit I was dancing in the crowd to what they describe as breakbeat, ghettotech, club music. (plus the drummer was very good looking) Next GZA/ Genius (member of Wu-Tang clan) did a kick ass performance and got many people out to the tiny Blue Stage to watch.King Khan even played a few opening songs for GZA. The last person to end the night and the festival for the Blue Stage was one of my heroes,Kid Sister. Playing all of my favorites and opening up with Right Hand Hi, Kid Sister put on a epic performance. One point during the show I, along with other girls, got to get on stage and dance with her to Pro Nails. As if that was not enough, at the end of the performance I got to meet her! This Festival plus Minus the Bear roadtrip plus great friends equaled a great weekend!

In celebration of the release of the new Wu-tang Album, 21 year old monster producer out of Canada, under the name Datsik (Troy B.), is smashing his way around the Dubstep scene.Although a new comer to the scene he is quickly gaining attention and becoming internationally known. Having had a few # 1 releases in Beatport, his style of dub, hip-hop, and industrial are what make his sound so unique and his samples are always a good addition. Making his name known, Datsik has gotten the attention of some of the biggest names in the scene and now featured on the new album dropped on Nov. 10 by Wu-tang. (Wu-tang meets the Indie Culture: enter the Dubstep)

Big up to this fellow! I am a huge fan of his roaring bass lines and ill fucking beats.

Fuck Trick or Treating, dressing up will suffice, and as for the candy…well a different type of candy. Spending Halloween with some of the greatest party DJs spinning right now was my choice for a good weekend vacation.This past August I attempted to attend HARD Summer Fest ’09 because of its promising line up, but HARD just tried to do it too HARD, filling the Forum with over 18,000 people when its capacity is only nearly 10,000. For most fans this was no problem, as for LAPD they felt differently about the situation. Busy P opened up the night and put on an amazing performance getting the crowds hyped up as people were still flowing into the coliseum. At one point security attempted to stop people from accessing entrance onto the floor, which only lead to the fans jumping over the railing (about a one story drop). Following Busy P and unfortunately ending the night, Crystal Castles performed. Alice Glass really got into her performance and came down off the stage into the crowd to sing. Standing right in front of me and the rest of the crowd, everyone went crazy trying to lay a hand on her. Chromeo was scheduled to go on after this performance but at this point the crowd was way beyond crazy and wanting more, so much more that the  LAPD had to put a pause on HARD until everyone calmed down. Pardon me but I would like anyone to try calming 18,000 alcohol and drug induced people…it’s impossible! 2 hours of waiting, HARD was shut down due to the crowds not complying with LAPDs request and everyone was kicked out. This was such a devastation because we traveled all the way from Texas for this and I didn’t get to see the people I wanted to the most! (Dear Bloody Beetroots and Crookers, If you are reading this please perform somewhere in Texas! Love, Benny Havoc a.k.a. Sarah) Once the death of HARD was announced, police lined the stage and began to force people out. The crowds were furious and began to throw bottles and trash at the police; one person even began a fire in one of the bathrooms. Leaving the Forum was suppose to be the epic end to a wonderful summer, in return HARD did me wrong. (although upon leaving I did have the pleasure of meeting P Thugg from Chromeo at the airport)

Despite the big let down my friend who ventured to California with me for take one of HARD, decided not give up and bought a 2 day pass and plane ticket for HARD Haunted Mansion ’09.

Big Names, Big Music, and Lots of Candy this halloween!
I went to see a few talents, but had the best Halloween experience I have had to date.
Good People, Good Vibes, and Bass Music!
Held at the Shrine this year in downtown LA, we were walking in P Diddy’s footsteps. It was a two day party, best thing I have ever done on a holiday. The energy at HARD blew me away! It might have been the narcotics, but everyone was having a blast and dancing non-stop. I couldn’t blame anyone for being completely inebriated but it was the right time and the right place to be obliterated and witness such a flawless lineup. I can die a happy man seeing the talent I saw that weekend. Although i missed the Crookers, which I am bummed about, I was mother fucking court side for Justice. So seeing the Crookers is still on my to do list, but youtube Justice at HARD Haunted Mansion and check out my pretty mug and huge pupils!
I encourage everyone to go next year! Ill be there same time, same place next year, to do it HARD!
